One of the most beneficial offerings we can make to this planet is to be an example of how to treat other humans – through our service to our own families and closest friends.
Our service: we offer appreciation, pay respectful attention, and perform thoughtful actions. We practice listening VERY well to others, in order to calm the inner voices that keep us feeling small and afraid in our own minds. We learn how to make the voice of our biggest wish louder than the voice of the habit that keeps us down.
Today, my wish: let’s serve our children, partners, and our parents in the following ways.
1. Thank them more often.
2. Respect their individuality (as in, love them for who they are TODAY).
3. Ask them how you can be better for them – regularly. I do this with my son almost every night and the answers have made me a much better mom. Might be the best teaching yet for my parenting.
4. Listen well – and make it safe for their answers to be delivered.
Our partners and children are not here to serve us. We are here to serve them. Let’s create the context for everyone near us to view themselves and the people around them through a more respectful and appreciative lens.
Most of the groundwork for this wish came through my work with the Handel Group, and my next global course is coming in September. It’ll be my honour to have you – I’ll cover the basics of how to approach this way of seeing and start to create the foundation for this new way of being.
